By W.B. Dunne The News Pauper thinks that its just weird that the apologists for BP can say such things that simply defy reason. I am especially fond of the specious argument that the dirty fucking hippies forced the industry into deeper, more dangerous water. Such incredible positions make one desire to see what led them there, like when you happen upon a car thrown by calamity through a high billboard. (That pic exists out there Im sure.) After mulling the dilemma over and over again and running into the dead end that also must arrest the thought process of those that traffic such polluted musings, the NP stumbled upon the answer. Like any criminal caught in the act, the purveyors of this line have to know deep down that their own actions put them there. In their blind support of the policy put forth by the flag-waving hypocrites of the last administration, they laid the trap they find themselves in now. The twisted logic is a reflex, however — twisting and rending the story doesnt change the reality that greed prevented the drillers from putting systems in place that would insure against this disaster. Like any sociopath, when the…

What a Difference Two Words Make

June 3, 2010
By

Al-Qaeda operatives attack several states in the southern US, causing the deaths of 11 Americans outright, poisoning many others, destroying fishing, tourism and other businesses for generations to come and costing America billions of dollars. CIA spy satellites immediately identify the Al-Qaeda home base that masterminded and launched the attack, and bipartisan voices are raised in Congress and throughout the land demanding the president call in air strikes to destroy the base and send in the Marines to kill off any terrorists left alive. With the world’s support, President Obama acts that very day, ordering the military to bomb the Al-Qaeda base ‘back to the Stone Age’ and putting the Marines on alert. “I will not sit still,” says President Obama in a speech to the nation, “While organizations that plot and profit from destructive acts and cause vast devastation to our nation exist and thrive. We will take every available course of action to put them out of business permanently.” Replace ‘Al-Qaeda’ with ‘British Petroleum’ and it makes all the difference, doesn’t it? 2010 RS Janes. CNN: BP’s ‘Top Kill’ Has Failed

May 30, 2010
By

CNN reported Sunday morning (5/30) that BP’s ‘Top Kill’ scheme to staunch the flow of oil gushing from the seabed of the Gulf of Mexico has failed. (Read the CNN story and see the video here.) Next up, BP plans yet another ‘cap’ that won’t work any better than the first one. Carol Browner, former head of the EPA and an adviser to President Obama, has confirmed that this is the worst environmental catastrophe in American history. For an appreciation of just how horrible and far-reaching is this disaster, read “10 Things You Need (But Don’t Want) To Know About the BP Oil Spill,” by Dana Perdomo, Alternet, here. I have to wonder: How much is BP playing us? I’ll bet gas will be up to $5 a gallon by the end of summer and it will be blamed on the big oil spill BP and their corporate colleagues will rake in even more billions while the oil continues to flow from the bottom of the Gulf. The only thing that will stop this from happening again is criminal prosecutions for negligent homicide, gross malfeasance, and fraud, with senior BP execs going to jail and the US government seizing…

Would Palin Really Like to Compare Her Experience on Nukes with Obama’s?

Would Palin Really Like to Compare Her Experience on Nukes with Obama’s?

“Now, the president, with all the vast nuclear experience that he acquired as a community organizer and as a part-time senator, and as a full-time candidate, all that experience, still no accomplishment to date with North Korea and Iran.” – Sarah Palin at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference, April 9, 2010, as quoted by Media Matters. In fact, as Media Matters points out, as a US senator, Obama traveled overseas to investigate nuclear stockpiles in other nations, co-sponsored a nuclear non-proliferation bill with Republican Sen. Richard Lugar in 2005, introduced another bill, the Nuclear Weapons Threat Reduction Act (S.1977) in 2007, and did his college thesis on Soviet nuclear disarmament long before entering politics. Actually, the Nobel committee cited Obama’s lengthy record of trying to limit nuclear weapons as one of the reasons he received the Nobel Peace Prize last year. What experience does Sarah Palin have in this area? Zip, zilch and zero. If I were an inexperienced beauty pageant contestant like Palin I wouldn’t get snarky about anyone else’s lack of experience in anything it only tends to remind the public that large majority who aren’t part of your personality cult of how vacuous and…

Obama’s Radical Liberal Socialist Agenda Revealed

April 10, 2010
By

Is this his horrible liberal socialist agenda laid bare? The legitimate object of Government is to do for a community of people whatever they need to have done but cannot do at all, or cannot so well do, for themselves in their separate and individual capacities. But in all that people can individually do as well for themselves, Government ought NOT to interfere.” In all those things which deal with people, be liberal, be human. In all those things which deal with peoples money, or their economy, or their form of government, be conservative.” The purpose is to establish and maintain a peaceful world and build at home a dynamic prosperity in which every citizen fairly shares. We shall ever build anew, that our children and their children, without distinction because of race, creed or color, may know the blessings of our free land.” We believe that basic to governmental integrity are unimpeachable ethical standards and irreproachable personal conduct by all people in government. We shall continue our insistence on honesty as an indispensable requirement of public service. We shall continue to root out corruption whenever and wherever it appears.” We are proud of and shall continue our far-reaching…

What a Great Idea — A Union for the Unemployed

March 2, 2010
By

Why didn’t anyone think of this sooner? It’s certainly a better use of the public anger than the corporately-sponsored Tea Party rallies. The Unemployed Now Have Their Own Union, and It’s Catching on Quickly An ingenious grassroots union for the unemployed is only a month old — and its numbers are growing. By Harry Kelber February 24, 2010 | AlterNet.org It’s been only a month that a union for the unemployed has come into existence through an ingenious grassroots organizing campaign. In case you haven’t heard about it, the union’s name is “UR Union of the Unemployed” or its nickname, “UCubed,” because of its unique method of organizing. UCubed is the brain-child of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), whose leaders feel that the millions of unemployed workers need a union of their own to join in the struggle for massive jobs programs. The idea is that if millions of jobless join together and act as an organization, they are more likely to get Congress and the White House to provide the jobs that are urgently needed. They can also apply pressure for health insurance coverage, unemployment insurance and COBRA benefits and food stamps. An unemployed worker…

The Tattlesnake CPAC Proof GOP is Still Doomed Edition

February 25, 2010
By

CPAC’s Corporate Mythmakers and True Believers Headed for a Hard Fall “Con artists have a word for the inability of their victims to accept that they’ve been scammed. They call it the ‘True Believer Syndrome.’” – Matt Taibbi, “Wall Street’s Bailout Hustle,” Rolling Stone, Feb. 21, 2010. You know you’re in trouble when your keynote speaker is Glenn Beck, the current Dancing Bear of the Fox Evening Zoo and promulgator of preposterous pompous carnival-clown revisionism of everything from the political thinking of progressive Tom Paine to the nature of Marxism. (Well, at least he left the cry-eye Vick’s VapoRub in the dressing room for this event.) Beck, like the rest of the Fox News team, seems to delight in unapologetically getting it wrong, time after time, and he knows his fans never read such authors as Paine or Karl Marx so, with skillful editing, ventriloquist Glenn can plant whatever Bizarro World ideas he desires in the mouths of the departed and defenseless. The most dedicated inhabitants of TV’s Beckistan no doubt reject the proof of their own eyes and ears when confronted with any reality that veers from the Ringmaster’s teachings, as any mind-locked True Believer does. It’s a matter…
