Last night after work I opened my computer and swore at it until it finally completely booted up. Then I played Freecell until the browser slowly loaded my homepage. I logged into my email and deleted 20 then read the 2 that were relevant and saved one for later because it contains so much information I need to sift through.
Then I opened Facebook.
I ‘liked’ some posts from friends and opened links they had posted that are relevant to my studies on environmental issues. An hour later I had a dozen tabs open to news articles I wanted to read.
Then my computer froze so I went downstairs, did dishes, made dinner and walked the dog. After dinner I came back upstairs to read those articles. An hour or so later I gave up and went to bed.
I have my FB account sorted so that I am only seeing posts from folks who are researching the same things I am interested in. Yes they also post some pretty pictures, and some political toons, but that doesn’t take much time, since generally I just glance at them. Every few weeks I look into posts of on my other lists.
Beyond the fact that my computer connection is slow, and my virus protection likes to interfere at inopportune moments (oh wait let’s do a full scan, or try to get you to buy extended protection, or remind you you have an old ass computer) all that reading takes time and by the time I am done I have too much on my mind to be able to write clearly.
I need to start getting up and going at 5 am again. Then I will have slept on the information from the night before, and it will be too early to have many new posts or emails. In the meantime – it’s late and I have to get to work.
Buy a Mac, you’ll have less problems, but far less money: which is why we probably won’t. Had one for a while and mostly clear sailing. Good Mac well over a grand. ERG.
Note: I never had “protection” with my Mac. NO PROBLEM. I swear “protection” might be kind of like organized crime. Buy this or else…
