HERD ABOUT IT?

by ana grarian

This morning I was flipping through some news reports on the web, trying to avoid election coverage – I’ll get enough of that on my FB feed. I came across this report from KOAT News on a town in New Mexico near the first nuclear test site. A couple of statements stood out in my mind as perhaps revealing slips of the tongue.

69 YEARS AFTER TRINITY — A FEDERAL RESEARCH TEAM WITH THE NATIONAL CANCER INSTITUTE IS INTERVIEWING NEW MEXICANS…INCLUDING THE HERRERA’S TO SEE IF THE HOMEGROWN FOOD, MILK AND WATER THEY CONSUMED AFTER THE NUCLEAR BLAST WAS CONTAMINATED.

I don’t really expect that a government research team will fully disclose the results

of their study, because I do not expect the government to fully take responsibility for the negative health effects of radiation, even of past events, because it would mean culpability in the present and future. That would impact nuclear power and nuclear weapon technology including our use of radioactive dirty bombs in other countries.

“we’re traveling around the state talking to people who were alive in the 1940’s to really get a sense of diet and lifestyle..during the time.”

This says to me that they are looking for diet and lifestyle trends so they can blame the cancer rates , at least partially, on the lifestyles of the people…..

And then there was this little morsel……

“that’s very difficult to study because cancer rates are quite variable among places, in fact they’re quite high everywhere in the United States.”

Hmmm…..and why are cancer rates high everywhere in the United States? I don’t think we’ll ever get that answer either.
