It seems earlier and earlier every year, retailers begin rolling out Christmas items, and as if in tandem, conservatives start fretting about the “War on Christmas” — the fear that America is slipping into secularism symbolized by failure to use the phrase “Merry Christmas.”
Perhaps former GOP Rep. Allen West couldn’t contain his excitement any longer, because now he’s invented a new war on a holiday.
The one-time Florida representative and retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel is extremely concerned by his observation that Americans use the phrase “Happy Fourth of July” to greet each other instead of “Happy 240th American Independence Day,” or better yet, “Steadfast and Loyal, Happy 240th American Independence Day.”
