“They were carrying the American flag to attack the U.S. Capitol,” the junior senator from Illinois told USA TODAY. “How dare they? You know, those are the colors I wore” on her Army National Guard uniform. Even as she turned her wheelchair around in an underground walkway and rushed to barricade herself in her office, she said she wasn’t afraid. “I knew I could take care of myself,” she said.
