Read her last answer again and reflect

Bill O’Reilly: “Let me be very bold and fresh again, do you believe that you are smart enough, incisive enough, intellectual enough to handle the most powerful job in the world?”

Sarah Palin: “I believe that I am because I have common sense and I have I believe the values that I think are reflective of so many other American values, and I believe that what Americans are seeking is not the elitism, the um, the ah, a kind of spineless, spinelessness that perhaps is made up for that with some kind of elite, Ivy league education and, and a fat resume that is based on anything but hard work and private sector, free enterprise principles. Americans are could be seeking something like that in positive change in their leadership, I’m not saying that that has to be me.”

All that’s missing is the ‘such as’

I commented on Chimp that I wasn’t botherd by this blather. I am more bothered by those who accept it. It says more about them than her. Palin basically takes standard talking points, like “elitism,” and whips them up for her “base.” Kind of expected. The problem here is her base simply doesn’t realize how elitist those who push this nonsense really are. It preys on the suspicions of the ignorant amongst us that the educated, and the well educated, (there’s a difference) think they’re better that everyone else. Not necessarily the case. There are as many less educated snobs and elitists as there are educated ones.

Ken, you wrote: “There are as many less educated snobs and elitists as there are educated ones.”

Yes, there are. Some of the Born Again and severely evangelical crowd are definite snobs and elitists — “We’re gettin’ into heaven and you’re not!”

The thing that makes me chuckle is that to Palinites, it really doesn’t matter what utter nonsense she spouts; they’ve even stopped trying to interpret it in favor of attacking the questioner or critic:

“You just hate her ’cause she’s a powerful Christian woman!”

“Everything she says is true and liberal socialists can’t stand truth!”

“You are going to hell in a handbasket because you refuse to see what is right in front of you. Our nation is going to fall just like the Roman empire if we do not turn back to One nation under God!”

“Sarah Palin scares you left wing monsters!”

“Democrats are all gay so they hate pretty women like Sarah!”

(And my favorite) “Are you stupid, like an idiot?”

Blah, blah, blah.

Fortunately, only a very slim sliver of the American public are Palinites and I wonder just how many of those ‘celeb gawkers’ at her book signings would actually turn out to vote for her.

Ivy League elitists?? So highly educated people make her base feel like inferior humans, so Ivy Leaguers are all bad and should all be called “elitist?” Yet, George W. Bush, a bonafide elitist from an elitist family – that didn’t apply to him when he was in office. Remember kids, study, don’t study too hard in school, don’t aim too high and whatever ya’ do — don’t get yourself into on of them high falutin eastern snob Ivy League universities. All that advanced book learnin’ won’t set well with us real americans. You betcha’ not.

BTW, if you go by that standard AND if you happen to be a fan of late night talk programming, you should NOT watch Conan O’Brien(Yale Graduate) and instead, watch Sarah’s nemesis, David Letterman(Ball State).

Can this woman do anything but snipe at people? Harpy of the new millennium.

Good point, Chuck. But the truth is those Palinites are only too happy to brag to friends if their kids get into an Ivy League school. They also love to put those “Valedictorian’s Mom” bumper stickers on the family ride. (I’ve been in a blue-collar bar where an uber-conservative Reaganaut was boasting that his daughter got into Princeton on a scholarship.) It’s true they don’t want any Eggheads or Brainiacs in the family but, if they end up with one, they’ll milk it for all it’s worth.

Just like they’ll go after Chelsea Clinton, but when their daughters get caught drunk, stoned, screwing around… whatever, they suddenly think it “unfair” they get criticized. If the whole affair with Palin’s daughter proves anything, it’s that abstinence-only ed is not only a failure; but an option accepted without question by the brain dead.
