The American Homebrewers Association is working with a group of homebrewers in Alabama to legalize homebrewing in the state.
Senate Bill 153, which would legalize homebrewing in Alabama, has been assigned to the Senate Tourism and Marketing Committee.

Dear Alabama AHA, BA and Support Your Local Brewery Members,

Thanks to all of your calls, SB153 passed favorably from the Senate Tourism and Marketing Committee in an unscheduled vote on Tuesday, February 9, proof that phone calls to your elected officials work!

The next step is to get SB153 scheduled for a vote before the full Senate. The Senate Rules Committee sets the schedule for all bills that come before the full Senate.

We ask that you please contact each of the 13 members of the Senate Rules Committee to request that SB153, which would legalize homebrewing in Alabama, be placed on the Special Order Calendar. The Special Order Calendar lists which bills the Senate will vote on during a particular day. There are hundreds of bills waiting their turn. We have to work hard to convince the Rules Committee that our bill is important enough to make the Calendar. Last years homebrew bill did not make the Calendar, so phone calls to the Rules Committee members are critical to getting the bill to a Senate vote.

Calling is easy and will only take about a minute per call. If your time is short, be sure to at least call the Rules Committee Officers Sen. Lowell Barron, Sen. Zeb Little, and Sen. Ted Little. Contact information for the Senate Rules Committee is listed below.

Finally, it is also time to call your own senator to urge him/her to support SB153. If you do not know who your senator is, you can look him/her up via this link: http://www.capitolconnect.com/demoassoc1/legislatorsearch.aspx. We will likely not have any advance warning about when SB153 will reach the floor, so we need to prepare each of our senators to vote in favor of legalizing homebrewing.
