I miss long walks
Trying to make me talk
And the three of us
Before he went away
You seemed sad
That day
House crowded with strangers
Almost as sad as you
As his scent faded
We played again
Tossing sticks
Teach me new tricks
I miss it all
I miss
Lolling my tongue
Out the car window
Wind in my fur
One morning
Trying to get you
To take me for a ride
Oh, why wouldn’t you stir
I poked you
In the side
With my nose
Pushed you
With a paw
When they took you away
They took me too
I hate this place
Others
Like me
They howl
They whine
They cry
And eventually
Get taken away
Never to be heard again
I miss your scent
Your every kind word
That I heard
I miss the tidbits
Whatever there were
That you were able
To feed me under the table
Now they’re taking me too
What do I do?
So much to fear
Oh why
Oh why
Aren’t you here?
So much I miss
But most of all
Now I don’t know what they’ll do
Oh how I miss you
