Written by Lilith Raymour
Seems just yesterday
We clung to our mother
New buds
Green
To the ways of the world
To all the breezes
Big and small
which would buffet us
So unprepared
For dead friends
Cut down
Before their time
We age
We change
We rearrange
And then
In final splendor
Chilly
And chillier winds
Begin to blow
And though
We really should know
So unaware
Before we tumble to the ground
In the silvery shadows of approaching Winter
Watch our colors glitter
In the fading Autumn sun we gleam
Oh, how wonderful life can seem
Just before the Fall
