Damn, we need run off voting.

Crossing the finish line the other evening it was the crazy party by more than a nose, followed up by the slightly less crazy party. Or would you prefer the party that often refers to themselves as “progressive” behind with the fascists in the lead?

The fascists are the true revolutionaries: willing to be traitors; destroy the village… and the nation… to save it. A “progressive” doesn’t settle for a mild version of a very, very bad idea.

What’s so damn bad about it?

Teabaggers like to compare this whole battle to the family budget. To say the family budget and a national budget are about as different as a single cell organism and the human population of a country like, oh say, the USA, would seem obvious. OK, I’ll include the marginally human too, if you insist. You know: the crazier teabag elements. But let’s go with the family comparison for the moment.

Dad comes home…

“Hey, honey, I just told my boss I’m willing to work for less than half the pay. No raises for me. None. Now you and the kids have to give up meals, heat during the winter, trips and medical care. Oh, and I told the boss he can have his company car back so you’ll all have to walk.”

That’s what happens when we refuse to stop the fire sale on taxes for the rich and big corporations. Refuse to make damn sure those folks: especially large corporations pay their fair share in taxes. Hell, in some cases pay any taxes at all and stop getting special consideration when Mom and Pop’s soda stand happens to be in the way of the latest Wally Mart. Hell, just stop giving them tax credits for moving their business overseas.

But, no, Mr. Obama’s response to hostage takers is to let them take, even when one could see this damn fake crisis coming for a mile. There will be more: we have rewarded hostage takers. No wonder some Teabaggers got pissy when Osama was killed: they recognized their intellectual brother in arms. Osama used planes. Teabaggers strap a bomb to our economy.

Government by those who scream the loudest and are willing to hold a country hostage is not representative government. It’s governance by ideological goosesteppers.

I will vote for the slightly less crazy party in 2012: only because they are “slightly less crazy” and it’s really my only choice in a two party system like we have now where minor parties really don’t have a chance in hell.

Damn.

I wish we had run off voting.

A good analogy.
I had been thinking about how, when the bank raises my ARM mortgage, I still have to pay it. If we hadn’t raised the debt ceiling our income would be lower from investments, and our bills would rise due to higher interest rates. Yet they were able to throw Joe and Judy citizen under the bus (just before they stopped running due to lack of funding) And then there are all those places where they are throwing money down the drain (FAA) by not making a decision.
