Surprise! O’Keefe’s NPR Video is a Hacked-Up Lie

Why NPR, or anybody else, would trust this idiot’s honesty, especially after the Shirley Sherrod fiasco, is beyond me, but there you go. If he were a progressive, he’d be blacklisted by the Big Media forever.

No Shocker: O’Keefe’s NPR “Sting” Video Is a Lie

The ACORN video was a fake. The Shirley Sherrod video was a fake. So why should anyone be surprised to find that the NPR video is also a fake? James O’Keefe has absolutely no interest in the truth. Instead, his well-funded hit machine has only one purpose: to distort and manufacture controversy.

The real scandal here isn’t anything that Schiller said, it’s that anyone treats O’Keefe and his video sausage grinding seriously. And that NPR, like the Obama administration in the last round of this unmitigated, bald-faced manipulation, reacts as if anything O’Keefe is producing can be trusted.

There may be no clearer marker of media’s decline than in their treating O’Keefe as a legitimate source. Like Scott Walker’s actions against the unions in Wisconsin, O’Keefe isn’t out there to find the truth. He’s out there to smash anyone not part of the conservative club, and if what that takes is an unending stream of sewage… he has no problem with that.

Racist Tea Party Leader Plans to Sabotage Union Protests Across the Nation

Proving once again the neocons can’t win without lies and treachery. Meanwhile, according to Democracy Now, Ayatollah Scott Walker’s public approval ratings in Wisconsin have dropped like a rock in the past week — now half the state hates him, and a large state law enforcement union that endorsed Walker during the election has sided with the protestors.

Tea Party Leader Hatches Plan to Infiltrate and Sabotage Union Protesters in WI and Other States

By Lauren Kelley

Does the name Mark Williams ring a bell for you? He’s the former Tea Party Express chairman who was ousted from the group last summer for publishing an unbelievably vile NAACP parody in the form of an “open letter” from Abraham Lincoln to the “coloreds,” who wanted to “buy flat-screen TVs” with white people’s money. (Happy President’s Day!) Three weeks later, Williams was back in business at the helm of a new Tea Party group, the Citizens for Constitutional Liberty.

Now that you know what a class act this guy is, it will surely come as little surprise that this is the same Mark Williams who wrote a blog post over the weekend entreating his fellow Tea Partiers to infiltrate the union workers who are protesting in Wisconsin and elsewhere this week, with the goal of getting himself on TV so he can say embarrassing things to tarnish the movement.

In his own words:

Here is what I am doing in Sacramento, where they are holding a 5:30 PM event this coming Tuesday: (1) I signed up as an organizer (2) with any luck they will contact me and I will have an “in” (3) in or not I will be there and am asking as many other people as can get there to come with, all of us in SEIU shirts (those who don’t have them we can possibly buy some from vendors likely to be there) (4) we are going to target the many TV cameras and reporters looking for comments from the members there (5) we will approach the cameras to make good pictures… signs under our shirts that say things like “screw the taxpayer!” and “you OWE me!” to be pulled out for the camera (timing is important because the signs will be taken away from us) (6) we will echo those slogans in angry sounding tones to the cameras and the reporters. (7) if I do get the ‘in’ I am going to do my darnedest to get podium access and take the mic to do that rant from there…with any luck and if I can manage the moments to build up to it, I can probably get a cheer out of the crowd for something extreme.

Sacramento organizers, beware!

Ayn Rand: Another Conservative Hypocrite

[Editor’s Note: Actually, when I read “The Fountainhead” as a teenager, I took it as a tale of an artist, in this case an architect, displaying his integrity by creating only what he wanted, and flouting the establishment rather than selling himself out to the highest bidder and producing mediocre work. The unregulated capitalist ‘Libertarian’ side of the novel’s protagonist, Howard Roark, was not immediately apparent to my young eyes – if anything, it showed those wealthy men who ran big businesses and other power-brokers in a poor light, with a few exceptions. That said, Rand’s anti-government ‘Objectivist’ philosophy became the basis for Libertarianism, and much of the justification for selfishness and cruelty to others we now hear expounded daily by the GOP, so the author’s use of government social programs like Medicare in her waning years is a particularly acute form of hypocrisy.]

Ayn Rand Railed Against Government Benefits, But Grabbed Social Security and Medicare When She Needed Them

by Joshua Holland, AlterNet, January 29, 2011

Ayn Rand was not only a schlock novelist, she was also the progenitor of a sweeping “moral philosophy” that justifies the privilege of the wealthy and demonizes not only the slothful, undeserving poor but the lackluster middle-classes as well.

Her books provided wide-ranging parables of “parasites,” “looters” and “moochers” using the levers of government to steal the fruits of her heroes’ labor. In the real world, however, Rand herself received Social Security payments and Medicare benefits under the name of Ann O’Connor (her husband was Frank O’Connor). […]

Her ideas about government intervention in some idealized pristine marketplace serve as the basis for so much of the conservative rhetoric we see today. “The reason I got involved in public service, by and large, if I had to credit one thinker, one person, it would be Ayn Rand,” said Paul Ryan, the GOP’s young budget star at a D.C. event honoring the author. On another occasion, he proclaimed, “Rand makes the best case for the morality of democratic capitalism.” […]

Rand is one of three women the Cato Institute calls founders of American libertarianism. The other two, Rose Wilder Lane and Isabel “Pat” Paterson, both rejected Social Security benefits on principle. Lane, with whom Rand corresponded for several years, once quit an editorial job in order to avoid paying Social Security taxes. The Cato Institute says Lane considered Social Security a “Ponzi fraud” and “told friends that it would be immoral of her to take part in a system that would predictably collapse so catastrophically.” Lane died in 1968.

Okies Refuse to Help Westboro Baptist Church Haters

These Okies are just OK by me. Maybe if Fred Phelps and his little band of hate-filled goofballs have their tires slashed often enough, they’ll stay home and stop bothering grieving military families.

Okla. Residents Refuse to Help Hate-Spewing Westboro Baptist Church Members After Tires Slashed

by Lauren Kelley
Nov. 16, 2010

Several members of Westboro Baptist Church — best known for their despicable “God Hates Fags” protests — showed up in McAlester, Oklahoma, over the weekend to picket outside the funeral of Army Sgt. Jason James McCluskey. When they returned to their car, they found that the front and rear tires had been slashed.

What happened next was pure karma: “[A]s their minivan slowly hobbled away on two flat tires, with a McAlester police car following behind, the protesters were unable to find anyone in town who would repair their vehicle,” Tulsa World reported.

What’s more, Assistant Police Chief Darrell Miller told the local paper that a counter-protest of some 1,000 people showed up at the funeral to taunt and jeer at the half-dozen church members.

McAlester, Oklahoma: No friend to Westboro Baptist Church.

Tea Party Candidates Like Angle Are Going to Kill the GOP in 2010

Keith Olbermann often correctly says of Sarah Palin, “That woman is an idiot!” So is this one, and she, and the other bewitched and batty Tea Party candidates, are the reason the GOP is not going to do as well in the 2010 elections as the projections of the Big Media might have you believe. Many Americans are rightfully upset with Obama and the Democrats, but are they upset enough to install goofballs in office who apparently never heard of the first amendment to the Constitution and its guarantee of freedom of the press? Do these Teabaggers seriously think they can get elected by only granting interviews to friendly reporters? As Junior Bush proved, ignorance and stupidity have a steep price. As the next election will prove, the GOP is stuck in a dark, mean, nasty, crazy and paranoid far-right place where most of the country doesn’t want to follow.

Sharron Angle: Press Should Ask the Questions We Want to Answer

This post first appeared on Open Left.

This is too much for even Fox News toady Carl Cameron, apparently. From TPM:

Sharron Angle has further expounded on her strategy of courting conservative media and avoiding more mainstream sources its not just about money, as shes said before, but also about only being asked the questions she wants.

We needed to have the press be our friend, Angle said in an interview that aired on Fox over the weekend.

Wait a minute. Hold on a second. To be your friend? said a disbelieving Carl Cameron. Before Angle could fully answer, he added: That sounds naive. Apparently this was too much for even him.

Well, no, said Angle. We wanted them to ask the questions we want to answer so that they report the news the way we want it to be reported.

Angle continued: And when I get on a show, and I say, Send money to SharronAngle.com, so that your listeners will know that if they want to support me they need to go to SharronAngle.com.

Well, at least we know have a clear definition of the liberal media: Anyone who asks a question that a conservative doesnt want to answer.

This is really a very revealing tip-of-the-iceberg moment for understanding how conservatives completely reinterpret the entire framework of liberal democracy: Rights for me, but not for thee! And yes America is founded on the principles of liberal political theory, which is why conservatives hate Americaa fact we should … start repeating over and over again.
